So I felt like I had my sciatic nerve slightly irritated for the last couple of weeks, because when I moved certain directions I would get a sharp pain. Well I have had problems with it before, and so I thought it was strange that it was on the opposite side that I usually have trouble with, and it was going up my back instead of down my leg.
Last night I got up off of the couch and dropped straight to the ground in excruciating pain. Something had to be done. I took a warm bath, used a heating pad, propped my knees up with pillows- everything I could to get some relief except for medication since I'm pregnant. This morning I woke up in worse shape than when I went to bed. I had to have help out of the shower because I couldn't get my leg over the tub wall, and I had to have help with everything getting dressed this morning and putting my shoes on. As soon as I got to work I asked for a referral to see a physical therapist in town to get some relief. We were there for about an hour and a half with him working on me! Heat, elevation, manuevers, manipulation, more stretching, and cold compresses. I left with an SI Joint band and he is ordering me one especially for pregnancy.
When you are pregnant you see, your body releases relaxin which relaxes the muscles of your pelvic girdle. I am evidentally prone to the shift because it started so early in pregnancy. My pelvis was completely rotated and my the tops of my hips were uneven. He described it as two cheese graders stuck together unevenly. If I had let it go much longer my symphis pubis would have popped out of place and then I would be in A LOT MORE pain. Anyways, to make a long story a little shorter I am still in pain- lots of it- but I can walk a little better. I have to wear this belt thing for the duration of my prgnancy, and for about a month afterwards. And I go back a few more times to try and get more relief.
